STORY

The King and I tells the story of Anna, an English school teacher who travels the far east to serve as tutor to the many children of the King of Siam. Anna's task to open the royal family's eyes to the modern world brings about a clashing of cultures: the King's conservative, male-dominant thinking to Anna's liberated western upbringing.

The King and I is based on the book Anna and the King of Siam by Margaret Landon and told through the timeless music of Richard Rodgers and the beautiful lyrics of Oscar Hammerstein II, Resorts World Manila will unravel the story of this masterpiece in a grand production at the Newport Performing Arts Theater extended until May 2013.

Nonie Buencamino

King

First-rate actor Nonie Buencamino has portrayed notable roles in movies and television. He also made a name in theater with award-winning and critically acclaimed performances in “Palacio ni Valentin”, “Batad sa Paang Palay”, “Milagros” and “Midnight Dancers”.

Bo Cerrudo

King

Bo Cerrudo is an exceptional artist gifted with a cool, solid baritone voice. He has filled in the shoes of key roles in major musicals including “Flower Drum Song”, “West Side Story”, “Rama Hari” and the Manila run of “Miss Saigon”, to name a few.


Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo

Anna

Menchu, the First Lady of Philippine Musical Theater, has played some of the most important characters in theater: Maria in "West Side Story", Guinevere in "Camelot", Fantine in "Les Miserables", Mrs. Lovett in “Sweeney Todd”, among others.

Shiela Valderrama

Anna

Theater princess Shiela Valderrama was among the three Filipinos cast in the Asian Tour of Broadway Asia’s “Cinderella”. She was also part of Hong Kong Disneyland’s “The Golden Mickey” and “Tarzan Singer”, and the first Asian to perform Nala in “The Festival of Lion King”.


Gina Respall

Lady Thiang

London based theater performer Gina Respall was cast also as Lady Thiang in the UK production of “The King and I”. She has also played as understudy for the parts of Kim and Gigi in the London production of “Miss Saigon”.

Apple Chiu

Lady Thiang

The Singing Bee singer, Apple Chiu, is also one of the 2006 Philippine Idol finalists. She had her stints in PAGCOR’s “Flow”, Atlantis’ “Rock of Ages” and in Resorts World Manila’s “The Sound of Music”.


Lorenz Martinez

A protégé of the Repertory Philippines, Lorenz is a prominent figure in both local and international theater productions, whose theater credits include “The Sound of Music”, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”, “Singing Bee”, “Beauty and the Beast”, “Fame”, among others.

Floyd Tena

Lun Tha

Floyd started in dance and musical theater first as a member of Teatros Dignos. He is currently with the all-male Filipino vocal trio Primo.


Tanya Manalang

Tanya started performing in Philippine theater at the age of 8. She has been part of “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe”, “In The Heights”, “Kaos” and “The Sound of Music”.

Marian Santiago

Marian is a soloist, vocal coach and a member of the Philippine Opera Company, who has performed for UST Conservatory of Music’s “Die Fledermaus Operetta”.
