New Miss Resorts World Manila wins title by promoting “Winner” persona
Admittedly hesitant at first about the huge responsibilities lined up for the next Miss Resorts World Manila, Princess Angela Abella, 23, shared that she shaped up her "winner personality"; the best trait the ambassadress of this premier integrated leisure destination should have. Articulating this answer to over a thousand guests at the Newport Performing Arts Theater last Saturday, August 27, Princess won the crown.
Answering to perhaps one of beauty pageant history’s most lengthy questions of the things she learned during the contest and how to use those should she win, Princess shared about the enormous expectations to the new face of this luxe entertainment complex. “But she has to be a winner. And a winner is a winner all the way”, Abella said. “With this, she should be able to surpass whatever challenges there are as Miss Resorts World Manila”, she further explained.

Born in Brunei Darussalam and was raised in Cebu City, Princess shared early on the pageant that she could have been one of the employees of Resorts World Manila. She shared that she was already being scheduled for a final interview but declined when she knew that she can’t join the pageant once she becomes an employee. “I have to join the contest first”, she shared during one of her pre-pageant interviews. Proving this a good choice, Princess took home worth half a million pesos in prizes by winning the title.
She was also awarded Miss Viva Talent, booking her to a P500,000 project deal with one of the country’s biggest movie production outfits, Viva Films. During the Swimsuit Competition and Media Presentation last August 15 at the The Plaza- Newport Mall, Abella was also given the title of "Darling of the Press."

Completing the royal court is Ladylyn Riva, 23, who placed as First Runner-up. Ladylyn won for herself P300,000 worth of prizes. Riva also won Best in Swimsuit and Miss Maxims. Finishing Second Runner-up, meanwhile, is Kriza Charisse Argana, 20, who took home P200,000 worth of prizes.
The 2011 contest is only the second edition of the Miss Resorts World Manila pageant. Being relatively young, beauty pageant experts and members of the press already ranked the pageant as one of the most prestigious among national beauty contests. Promising “a bigger and better” beauty fair this year, Miss Resorts World Manila 2011 concluded on a 2-hour coronation night marked with spontaneity, great choreography, and world-class production.

After a stunning opening number with the 28 finalists draped in golden casual wears, the ladies paraded in uniform swimsuits before gliding in their designer evening gowns. Moving on as 12 semi-finalists with Abella , Riva and Argana are Jo Ann Peria, Reina Mae Maerina, Pamela Sue Nieva (Miss Photogenic), Pauleen Conde, Cara Rodriguez, Liezl Verses (Best in Evening Gown), Sabrina Jane Watts, Angela Luz Abuallata (Miss Talent), and Princess Leiza Manzon.
After the casual interview round, joining Abella, Riva and Argana on the Top 5 are Liezl Verses, Binibining Pilipinas 2007 First Runner-up and the Best in Gown winner, and Reina Mae Maerina, the People’s Choice. Maerina gathered 2,299 votes in an online voting hosted at Resorts World Manila’s Facebook page. She shared 14.65% of close to 16,000 votes that were casted. One final question decided then on the final placement of the winners.
The coronation night was hosted by Swiss model turned MTV VJ Sarah Meier and model and TV Host Rovilson Fernandez. Adding some more glitz to the pageant are Philippine Daily Inquirer showbiz columnist Dolly Anne Carvajal and Philippine Azkals star player Anton del Rosario sitting at the judges panel. Kaos lead performer Martha Joy, RWM Concert Series September performer and broadway actor Leo Valdez and the cast of the soon to be opened musical “The Sound of Music” also provided intermission numbers.
