Resorts World Manila hosts Star Awards and Yahoo OMG Awards in one night

Resorts World Manila solidified its role as Manila's new entertainment capital holding two prestigious awards shows in one evening. The 27th Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC)'s Star Awards for Movies was staged at the Newport Performing Arts Theater (NPAT) back to back with the inaugural of Yahoo OMG Awards held at RepubliQ last June 21, 2011.

It was indeed a night of glitz and glamour as the stars paraded Resorts World Manila’s celebrity-friendly venues in two occasions; the other giving citations to local cinema’s outstanding performances and the other celebrating popularity, naming local celebrities that are most searched and most voted online.

At Newport Performing Arts Theater, Comedy Queen, Ai Ai delas Alas, and her top grossing movie “Ang Tanging Ina ‘Nyong Lahat” topped the Star Awards podium with delas Alas winning Movie Actress of the Year and her movie as Movie of the Year. The movie also claimed four more awards with Wenn Deramas cited as Movie Director of the Year, Eugene Domingo as Movie Supporting Actress of the Year, Xyril Manabat as Movie Child Performer of the Year and Marya Ignacio for Movie Editor of the Year.

Digital movie “Sigwa” also reaped awards on the independent movie categories. The movie claimed Digital Movie of the Year and its director, Joel Lamangan took home the trophy for Digital Movie Director of the Year. Five more trophies were later on handed to this critically-acclaimed digital movie with Tirso Cruz III winning Digital Supporting Actor of the Year, and the artistic and technical trophies for Digital Cinematography, Digital Editing, Digital Production Design, and Digital Sound Engineering.

Other major citations were handed to Coco Martin as Movie Actor of the Year for “Noy”, Christopher de Leon as the Ulirang Artista Lifetime Achievement Awardee and Regal Films matriarch Mother Lily Monteverde as Ulirang Alagad ng Pelikula sa Likod ng Kamera awardee.

At RepubliQ meanwhile, TV5 variety show “Wiltime Bigtime” host and Valenzuela City Councilor Shalani Soledad is named OMG! Celebrity of the Year. Soledad came as Yahoo’s most searched celebrity from late last year to early this year. Binibining Pilipinas Universe 2011 Shamcey Supsup on the other hand, won OMG! Major Impact Award being the most searched non-showbiz personality.

Other big wins for the first ever Yahoo OMG Awards are for Piolo Pascual (Hottest Actor), Jennylyn Mercado (Hottest Actress), Coco Martin (Breathrough Male Artist), Christine Reyes (Breakthrough Female Artist), Vice Ganda (Funniest Comedian), Eugene Domingo (Funniest Commedienne), Christian Bautista (Coolest Male Singer), Charice (Coolest Female Singer), Parokya ni Edgar (Coolest Band), and Joey Samson (Fashion Designer of the Year).
