RWM hosts Bourne Legacy Asian premiere

Amazed by the size and grandeur of the Newport Performing Arts Theater (NPAT), the producer himself, Patrick Crowley, introduced the world premiere screening of "The Bourne Legacy" on August 5 in Resorts World Manila (RWM). The red carpet event was the first ever screening of the Hollywood movie. It's regular screening in Philippine cinemas nationwide is still slated on August 8, in the US on August 10 and in the United Kingdom on August 13.

Crowley started his speech with praises to the venue saying “it’s the best of its kind”. He then continued by thanking the Filipino people for making the 4th “Bourne” movie a success. “The Manila chase is, undoubtedly, the best ‘Bourne’ chase yet”, he said. “We spent hours to meet with authorities to organize crowd and traffic control, spent millions to build roofs in a community in San Andres (Manila) to create a more convincing set- we thanked the Filipinos for your utmost hospitality”, Crowley shared further.

Before Manila was chosen, other Southeast Asian cities considered to be the movie’s location were Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam and Jakarta in Indonesia. “After 18 months since the start of the negotiations, here we are, ready to showcase the first international movie that was shot in the Philippines after a long time”, Crowley enthused.

Filipino actor John Arcilla and Lou Veloso, who had small but significant roles in the movie, also attended the red carpet premiere.  Other notable personalities who graced the event were Italian ambassador Luca Furnari, Manila City Mayor Alfredo Lim, Tourism secretary Ramon Jimenez, Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo, Metro Manila Development Authority Chairman Francis Tolentino, former Senator Miguel Zubiri, actors Ronnie Ricketts and Rica Peralejo, Miss Resorts World Manila 2010 and Pinoy Big Brother ex-housemate Wendy Tabusalla, and media personalities Tim Yap, Ces Drilon and Alex Santos.

Before the screening started, the movie’s lead cast Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton and Joan Allen greeted the audience through a recorded video sent from New York. “We had a great time shooting in your lovely city. We hope you will enjoy the movie”, Renner said, signaling the dimming of the lights in the theater.

During the screening, cheers erupted from the 1,500-full audience when Dr. Martha Shearling (Rachel Weisz) revealed in the first half of the movie that the chemicals Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner) needs are in Manila. When the movie ended after 2 hours and 15 minutes displaying the aerial shots of the majestic El Nido, Palawan, the crowd roared in approval again.
