The King and I auditions begin

From the hills in Austria, the grand stage of the Newport Performing Arts Theater will transport us to the majestic sceneries of the Kingdom of Siam. Resorts World Manila continues to stage world-class musicals with an all-Filipino production of “The King and I” and you can be part of this dream ensemble.

Auditions for the principal roles, Anna Leonowens, The King, Lady Thiang, Prince Chulalongkorn, Louie (the son of Anna), Kralahome, Phra Alack, Captain Orton, Sir Edward Ramsey, Tuptim, Lun Tha, and Princes Ying Yao Lak with the kids of the King, is scheduled on March 22 and 23 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater (NPAT). The registration will begin at 8:00 am at the Vestibule of NPAT with entrance at the 3rd floor of Newport Mall. Cut-off for registration is at 3:00 pm while the audition will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Actors auditioning for the male roles must be 18 years old and above and will use the song “I Have Dreamed” as the audition piece. Female auditioners too should be 18 years old and above and are asked to prepare their rendition of “We Kiss in the Shadow”. Kids auditioning for the child roles should be 7 to 12 years old with “Getting to Know You” as their audition song.

For the remaining cast of the play, there will be an audition on March 24, 2012 at the Backstage Rehearsal Studio of NPAT. The entrance of the studio is at the 2nd floor of the Newport Mall, near Starbucks. Registration is at 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Callback will be on March 30 (1:00 - 5:00 pm). Actors who will be requested to appear at the callback should sing these audition songs: “Is a Puzzlement” (The King and Prince Chulalangkorn), “I Whistle a Happy Tune” (Louis- son of Anna), “Something Wonderful” (Lady Thiang), “My Lord and Master” (Tuptim), “Hello Young Lovers” (Anna Leonowens), “We Kiss in the Shadows” (Lun Tha) and the Letter to Mrs. Anna monologue for actresses auditioning for the role of Princess Ying Yao Lak.
